I am curious to know what everyone thinks church “is”… Is this picture accurate? Is church competition? Is church politics? Is church a Bank? The book unChristian says that 85% of the “unsaved” perceive us to be hypocritical, too political, too focused on competition with other churches, and to money driven… What is church to you?
I would like for this to turn into a discussion, but either way, just think about what church means to you!
I just wanted to know what you guys think of this video… Please watch it and comment. It has to do with Oprah and her new online church… Well she calls it a class, but its really a church.
Just wanted to let everyone know I am officially on twitter.com! It’s a cool way to keep up with friends via text messages and it’s AWESOME! Thanks Pam Case for turning me on to it.
-Set up your phone to receive text messages and find me on there. Search for “timkurek”and press follow. Then I will follow you and we will get each others updates.
This has made Myspace seem boring for me and I encourage all of you to check it out. I can’t wait to use this application with the UC college group, so we can stay connected throughout the week!
I am following the blogs from Mars Hill’s many multi-site pastors underneath Mark Driscoll… And something caught my eye from their downtown Seattle location.
I really wish that every church was as committed to sponsoring such incredible events for their local ministries… I really wish I could go to this concert!
I have been saved for almost 10 years and in that entire time no man apart from Jesus has encouraged or instructed me more than Mr. George Feeny… Yesterday he turned 81…. OKAY well the actor who played Mr. Feeny turned 81! And I know he was a fictional character but I love him and who can judge me for loving a lovable old man from my favorite tv sitcom growing up? NO ONE! Anyways I digress….
Yesterday Mr. Feeny turned 81 and while I celebrated his birthday alone with a nice dinner and a crisp Dr. Pepper, I know I wasn’t alone…
Wow… I finally got here! The 10,000 mark on my blog is something I have been looking forward to for a while. I am humbled and excited about this crazy project turning into “something”. The number serves only as a comfirmation that I was supposed to start this blogsite, and I am thankful it has been received so well. I look forward to writing more!
You might have noticed lately a difference in my personality and behavior, and that I have not been at all my typical self. I am sorry if that has freaked ya out. The reason for this is that I have been very much overwhelmed by some things in my life and as I have gotten closer to the Lord, I have apparently drawn a huge bulls eye square on my back. I have never known the throws of depression and insecurity like I have this past week. Nothing in particular spurred this on, but everything has worked together to freak me out a little. It’s okay, I knew it would happen, and I knew that my calling would be stressful at times. I just want to apologize for my attitude and ask for your continual prayer as I keep moving forward on this pathway of “growing up”. I am comfortable in the journey, but tired by the hours, weeks, and months of constant hiking on the path. I know this is my wilderness time, but it has deeply affected me. Please just pray… I don’t need comments in response to this blog, I just need your help as my brothers and sisters in Christ. Thank you so much for your time!
The last month has been crazy busy, but I always make time for reading, music, and movies… It has definitely been a good month for DVD’s coming out, but the music and books are lacking so I have been looking for more topical books and more laid back music that isn’t more than a year old. So here are my recommendations!
What’s On the Ipod…
What’s in the Messenger Bag…
What’s in the DVD player…
So as you can see, I’ve been rather busy with the above! Just know that if I put it up here, then I HIGHLY recommend it (okay, with the exception of Everything Must Change… I just started it and don’t have an opinion yet)!
As a writer I have always had the compulsion to buy as many notebooks as I possibly could. It’s as if I was addicted to paper, and my room bore witness of the unnatural obsession. Then several years ago I found a notebook called a Moleskine… My life hasn’t been the same since!
As I began buying, using, and recommending Moleskines, I realized that this is the first notebook I have ever seen that actually has fans… I mean literally! 38 Facebook groups, 72 Myspace groups, and 13 websites/blogsites devoted to this incredible little notebook!
“But it’s true… it is an image conscience notebook that works for everyone! Who wouldn’t want to use the same brand of notebook that Hemingway used?!”
So I encourage all of you to go and grab a few if you haven’t already! They are a life-saver and you will know why after you have had one for a while. Most of my new book is, at the very least, being conceptualized in one of my many Moleskine notebooks… They even have a file folder in the back cover that I have been using to put ideas for the book in…
Aren’t they just beautiful? haha… The cheapest place to purchase them is online, so check the website first! http://www.moleskines.com/

“Love thy neighbor, too, albeit that he be of a different religion. Thou thinkest thyself to be of that sect which is the nearest to the truth, and thou hast hope that thou and thy compeers who think so well, shall certainly be saved. Thy neighbor thinketh differently. His religion thou sayest is unsound and untrue; love him, for all that. Let not thy differences separate him from thee. Perhaps he may be right, or he may be wrong; he shall be the rightest in practice, who loves the most. Possibly he has no religion at all. He disregards thy God; he breaks the Sabbath; he is confessedly an atheist; love him still. Hard words will not convert him, hard deeds will not make him a Christian. Love him straight on; his sin is not against thee, but against thy God. Thy God takes vengeance for sins committed against himself, and leave thou him in God’s hands. But if thou canst do him a kind turn, if thou canst find aught whereby thou canst serve him, do it, be it day or night. And if thou makest any distinction, make it thus: Because thou art not of my religion, I will serve thee the more, that thou mayest be converted to the right; whereas thou art a heretic Samaritan, and I an orthodox Jew, thou art still my neighbor, and I will love thee with the hope that thou mayest give up thy temple in Gerizim, and come to bow in the temple of God in Jerusalem. Love thy neighbor, despite differences in religion.” (Love Thy Neighbor- Aug. 9th, 1857)
